As designers, we have two jobs: to understand, appreciate, and respect the rich history of iconic furniture pieces, and to know when and how to source a good dupe. With budget being an important consideration from project to project, the latter is a recurring reality.

And if the sheer amount of replicas on the market are any consideration, we have a sneaking suspicion that the same holds true for design lovers and hobby decorators. So, we’ve decided to share the wealth, from our go-to Wishbone Chair replica to more affordable, budget-conscious versions of on-trend furniture pieces (sheepskin, anyone?).

Ahead, shop 13 of our go-to furniture dupes, from sofas and accent chairs to pillows, lamps, and area rugs.

1. Wishbone Chairs

The iconic Danish Wishbone Chair has been around since the 1950s and, for better or for worse, has been replicated countless times over. While you can scoop an original designed by Hans Wegner for Carl Hansen & Søn from Design Within Reach for just shy of $1,000, you can also get the look for (way) less at Rove Concepts. When opting for a full dining chair set, the latter is much more budget-conscious.

2. Slipcovered Sofa

The slipcovered sofas of the ’80s and ’90s are making a chic comeback, and fortunately, prices run the gamut from luxe to budget. While the above Amber Lewis for Anthropologie option is stunning if you’re willing to splurge, we also love the Pottery Barn York Slope Arm Sofa for a more affordable look-alike.

3. Canopy Bed

A beautiful wood canopy bed will never go out of style, especially if you have the high, swoon-worthy ceilings and spacious footprint to pull one off. We’ve found ourselves sourcing this style countless times in the last few years, hinting at its growing popularity. A go-to for a more luxe option is easily the Sonder Living Thomas Bina Otis Poster Bed, while the Crate and Barrel Keane Driftwood Bed is a more affordable option that’s just as stunning.

4. Sculptural Floor Lamp

The sculptural double floor lamp is a trendy, ultra-modern option that we find ourselves sourcing time and time again. We love the modern form of the metal shades on the more pricey McGee & Co option, and can vouch for the quality of the more affordable CB2 buy, especially for half the price.

5. Sheepskin Accent Chair

From boucle to sheepskin, it’s clear that cozy, texture rich fabrics (particularly on sculptural accent chairs) are having a moment. We absolutely love the Theo Armchair from Shoppe Amber Interiors for higher-budget projects, but can’t help but be partial to the Bun Foot Accent Chair from The Inside, which will run you just over $1,000 (wink, wink).

6. Classic Wood Dresser

For a classic wooden dresser with decades of staying power, we’ll always adore the Restoration Hardware Maison Dresser. But if budget a consideration, the Birch Lane Garland Dresser ($1,602) is an excellent aesthetic replica, from the ornate legs to the classic six-drawer structure.

7. Checkerboard Area Rug

We have thoughts about the checkerboard print craze. While we love the look, we’d argue that it’s a bit risky to shell out for an expensive item given the inherently transient nature of trends. With that, we present you the undeniably stunning (and Insta-famous) Checkerboard Rug designed by Sarah Sherman Samuel for Lulu & Georgia, and a solid budget option in the All Modern Checkered Woven Area Rug. It’s machine washable, too!

8. Matte Black Nightstand

Furniture dupes | Designer furniture dupes

Ultra-modern matte black furniture has been dominating the design scene for the better part of a decade, which means we’ve sourced countless options across all budgets and price points. Our top-tier buy for a black wood nightstand is easily the Dana Nightstand from McGee & Co (just look at that woven detail!), while the West Elm Metalwork Nightstand offers the same overall look for (far) less.

9. Fringe Throw Pillows

There’s something undeniably appealing about high-quality, handwoven throw pillows (IYKYK), but this is an easy way to save a little money on a project if necessary. We love the McGee & Co Abbey Silk Fringe Pillow if we’re leaning on the splurge side, while the CB2 Eyelash Pillow offers the same look for half the price.

10. Leather Sofa

For a quality cognac leather sofa complete with matching bolster pillows and charming button detailing, we’re admittedly diehard Article Sven fans. But for a more luxe option with vintage, you can’t beat the Joybird Briar Leather Sofa — the magic is in the hand-dyed, perfectly worn Santiago Cider leather.

11. Neutral Area Rug

A classic neutral area rug is a staple in any home, so needless to say, we’ve spent hours upon hours sourcing different options. We love the subtle two-toned look of the wool Surya Reliance Rug, while the more affordable Joelle Rug from Lulu & Georgia offers a similar aesthetic with a slightly more rusty color palette (look up close!).

12. Wood Table Lamp

Combining a slightly rustic, wood column lamp base with a modern angular linen shade is a foolproof aesthetic combination we’ll never tire of. We love the matte black detailing on the more luxe Tito Lamp from McGee & Co, while the West Elm Column Lamp offers a similar aesthetic for half the price.

13. Modern Storage Sideboard

Whether you’re furnishing a dining room, entryway, home library, or office, we’ll most likely present a matte black sideboard for your consideration. The look is equal parts rustic and modern, and the storage is unmatched. For a slightly more sleek look, we love the Lulu & Georgia Marjorie Sideboard, while the Crate & Barrel option hits the mark for just over $1,000.
