When I set out to design our master bedroom, I had a few goals in mind:

1) To use as much of our existing furniture as possible

2) To make it a beautiful retreat within our home and,

3) To allow for great sleep.

The master bedroom was one area of our home where we actually had most of the furniture for the space already, including the bed, curtains, rug, nightstands and lamps. While I needed a new dresser, artwork, and chandelier, the design of the space was fairly straightforward. I wanted to stick with a limited palette of neutrals and black. With a statement crystal chandelier, fresh white bedding, and luxurious curtains, I felt my top two goals were easily covered. But, this third goal took a little more consideration. As always, I started by gathering design inspiration.

Black walls, faux zebra, glam chandelier, and bold artwork are some of my go-to ingredients. Image via The Design Daredevil

Beyond being beautiful, I really wanted this room to function and be calming and comfortable at the end of the day. Having rented and moved around from place to place over the last 10 years of my life, I’ve never really invested in a great mattress. Now felt like a good time to do so. I opted for a Casper after comparing reviews and prices at multiple hip mattress sites (can you believe that’s a thing?). Casper just seemed to be a clear winner (and after having slept on it for a few months, I can confirm this was a very, very good decision).

Beyond investing in an amazing mattress, we did make a few other small tweaks that really let us take refuge in this room–blackout curtains, dim bulbs for the overhead lighting, and extra bedding so that we always have a fresh set on hand.

The Final Result:

We hope you’ve enjoyed the bedroom reveal and can implement a trick or two to make your bedroom even more snooze-worthy.
