Natural home decor elements have become abundant in design recently – and why not? With updated coastal decor, we can inspire thoughts of nostalgia, relaxation and good times without burying our homes in seashells and sailboats.

Natural Decor Ideas From The Coast

Add An Urchin

{No. 29 Designs}

Sea Urchins are an easy and fun way to add a pop of the ocean to your decor without overdoing the coastal theme. They even come in bright gold or metal options to add a touch of glam to your tabletop decor. If you are a fan of candles like me, these candle holders are a good option for something light that is less dramatic than a metallic.

Accessorize With Shells & Corals

{Home Decorators Collection}

Shells and corals add texture and dimension to neutral palettes. These shell lamps are classy and clean, while a shell bowl looks great filled with other ocean elements as a centerpiece like the image above. This cast resin coral is a great addition to any mantle or coffee table, while these bookends are a perfect beachy touch to shelving. We love this this coral pillow. It’s soft, neutral and classy on any couch.

Use Coastal Materials Like Jute & Linens

{Jonathan Adler}

While jute rugs don’t appear to be very soft and inviting, they are actually very comfortable and durable. This rug from Pottery Barn is a personal favorite and adds great texture and dimension. Coastal decor is light and airy making these pillows a soft reminder on a slipcovered sofa of the beach.

Add Rope To Anything

{Williams-Sonoma Home}

This is one of our favorite decorating tips because we love rope accents as a form of natural home decor. Rope is very reminiscent of the ocean and nautical life and makes a statement like these side tables. Adding a Mirror over a couch or console, or Table Lamps to any side table are also simple and easy ways to use rope elements.

Seascapes

{Ahouseinthehills}

These images evoke the calm, cool and collected sensation of relaxing by the sea. Devoting a portion of your wall real estate to a seascape might be just the decorating idea you’ve been looking for.

Coastal decor is a fun decor option even if your space isn’t completely coastal. If you’re worried about getting just the right touch of natural decor in your home, a Havenly designer would be happy to help!
